Lowell, Mass Grecian Festival 2005





LOWELL, Mass. – Would you like some baklava with that?

If so, you might want to mark your calendar for the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church’s annual Grecian Festival ’05, which is scheduled for the weekend of June 10-12 on the church grounds.

Dates and Times:

The three-day celebration, the parish’s 13th since its initial festival in 1979, will open on Friday, June 10 and run through Sunday, June 12 under a big tent. The hours are

Friday at 5 p.m. and run until 11 p.m.
Saturday are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and
Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Special Features

Visitors will be able to:

  • Enjoy lamb-on-the-stick, spinach pie, baklava and other Greek fare.
  • Dance to the Greek music of live bands and deejays throughout the three-day period.
  • Accompany your children to Kids Town and watch them play in the amusement area.
  • Sign up for a church tour to view the exquisite mosaic work that has made Transfiguration one of the most beautiful churches in the country.

Live music will be provided during the three days by Ta Pethia Orchestra. When the band isn’t playing, music will be provided by Nostalgia, a local deejay.

At Kids Town, children will be able to enjoy carnival rides, face painting, coloring contests and a magic show by the Great Kallini.

Admission is $2 and free for children 12 and under. Some of the proceeds from the three-day festival will benefit the parish’s mortgage elimination program.

The Merrimack Journal is a major sponsor of this year’s festival.

Directions:

The church is located on Fr. John Sarantos Way, which is off Fletcher Street near the Lafayette Club and adjacent to the North Common. From Interstate 495, take the Lowell Connector at Exit 36, get off on the Thorndike Street (Exit 5B), bear left at the fourth set of lights onto Fletcher Street and take a right at the end of the North Common onto Fr. John Sarantos Way. The church is located at the end of the street.
