On-site Hair Donations for the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Campaign

Piscataway, NJ – Saturday, November 10, 2007, the St. George Greek Orthodox Church Youth Association (GOYA) presents its 5th Annual Greek-Night Charity Dinner Dance. Proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Central & South Jersey Affiliate. The dance will take place from 6:30 to 11 pm in the AHEPA Hall of the St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1101 River Road, Piscataway. Donations are $30 for adults, $10 for children 12 & under, and children under 5 are free. Please call Sophie Exarchakis 732.723.9088 for reservations, as tickets will not be sold at the door. All donations are tax-deductible.

The evening will consist of mezedakia (Greek appetizers); a bountiful buffet with foods that are donated by various local diners and restaurants; dessert and coffee; musical entertainment by DJ Tommy Karas; a special performance by the Hellenic Dancers of NJ; and a surprise for all our little friends!

During the dinner/dance, hair dressers from VOI Salon and Spa of East Brunswick, NJ will be giving free hair cuts to individuals who are willing to donate their hair to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Campaign. The donated hair will be used to make real hair wigs for women that are under-going cancer treatments.

The GOYA selected the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation as its 2007 charity because several women in the St. George community are currently battling this disease. The promise of the Susan G. Komen Foundation is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all, and energizing science to find cures. The vision of the Central & South Jersey Affiliate is to reduce the percentage of late stage breast cancer diagnoses through aggressive education and screening initiatives. Net proceeds from this event will benefit Komen's nation resource programs as well as local breast health education and screening. For more information about this foundation, please contact the Central & South Jersey Affiliate, 2 Princess Road, Suite D, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648, 609-896-1201, or visit http://www.komencsnj.org.

This is the 5th annual charity fundraiser that is sponsored by the St. George Greek Orthodox Youth Association (GOYA). The GOYA has raised over $90,000 for charities such as the Smile Train, the Greek Children's Fund, and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. This annual fundraiser was started by then 6-year-old Georgie Exarchakis, as a way to raise money for less fortunate children suffering with cleft lip and palate. Over the years it has blossomed into a beautiful annual event that is well attended by friends and family of the community, as well as friends from outside the Greek community. The goal of this event is to offer support to the families that are going through difficult times as they battle various illnesses; raise awareness in the community; and at the same time raise funds to enable these charities to continue offering their services and programs.

For more information regarding this event, to make reservations, or to donate your hair during the event, please contact Sophie Exarchakis at 732. 723.9088.
