(FHASNE) Announces Plans for Boston
Greek Independence Day Celebration 2011


(30 March 2011, Boston)--The Federation of Hellenic-American Societies of New England (FHASNE) is busily preparing for the 17th Annual Greek Independence Day Parade that will be held on Sunday, April 10 beginning at 1pm. The parade route will begin on Boylston Street and will make its way down to the reviewing stand at Charles Street. The parade will feature Greek organizations and Churches, marching bands and floats. His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios, the Honorable Mayor Menino of Boston and His Excellency Ambassador of Greece in Washington, D.C. Vasileios Kaskarelis will serve as Grand Marshals. Joining them will be Senator Scott Brown, Congressman Stephen Lynch and the Consul General of Greece Mr. Fotopoulos as Honorary Grand Marshals. Several other local and Greek politicians and dignitaries will be on hand to celebrate the day.

At the conclusion of the Parade, a Celebration on the Boston Common will immediately take place featuring live Greek music, traditional Greek dance performances and Greek food. We invite and encourage all to attend.

Events leading up to the Parade begin on Friday, April 8 at 12 Noon with the Greek Independence Day Commemoration hosted by Governor Deval Patrick and the Massachusetts Legislature at the State House. A reception at the Consulate of Greece in Boston hosted by the Consul General, Ilias Fotopoulos will immediately follow.

Prior to the Parade on Sunday all are invited to attend the 10:00am Doxology at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of New England, Parker and Ruggles Streets, Boston, presided by His Eminence, Metropolitan Methodios.
