Aleks Cala Passes Away


PORTLAND -- Aleks Cala, 79, died Friday, March 3, 2006 at his residence surrounded by his loving family after a long illness.

Aleks was born in Nivan, Albania on Sept. 25, 1926, the son of Spiro and Amalia Cala.

He married the late Marianthi Dilios in 1954 and lived in Vlore, Albania, where he worked as a master mechanic. After the downfall of Communism in 1991, Aleks immigrated to the United States with his entire family and established a new life in Greater Portland.

Family members describe him as a hard worker, devoted husband and a loving, caring father to his children.

Aleks is survived by his son, Fotaq and his wife Mirela of Portland; his three daughters, Paskalina of Portland, Violeta Dobra and her husband Shkelqim of Windham, and Mirela Tucci and her husband Andrew of Portland; a sister Jorgjica Kote of Tirana, Albania; and six grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon on Tuesday, March 7 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Portland. Burial will be at Forest City Cemetery, South Portland.
